Men, Take Control of Your Health

Men, let’s make 2015 the year that we change this stat and take control of our health! Here are five important ways to get started.

March is Men’s Health Month for us here at alive, and each year there’s been a men’s health issue that keeps coming up: time and time again, it’s been shown that men visit their health care practitioner for regular check-ups and preventive care far less than women. Does this mean that men are healthier? Nope.

Men, let’s make 2015 the year that we change this stat and take control of our health! Women, if you’re reading this and thinking of the men in your lives, why not pass this guide on to them?

    Step one: get checked

Yes, this does mean that you’ll have to book an appointment with your health care practitioner. However, what tests you need depend on your age. Check out our article, “Boys to Men” to discover the to-do list for you.

    Prevention is key

If you’ve been given the all-clear at your health care practitioner’s office, the work is actually far from over. Living a healthy lifestyle means eating well, exercising, and—possibly—taking supplements every day. Learn the how-to with these guides.

    The importance of mental health

Men’s mental health is, unfortunately, often overlooked. However, as with women’s mental health, it’s an extremely important facet of overall well-being.

    • Lighten up and let loose!
    • When issues arise, know how to tackle them constructively.
    • Overcome addictions.

Study up on key issues …

There are certain health concerns that men are susceptible to. Check out our comprehensive alive articles on

    • prostate cancer
    • testosterone
    • heart disease (hint: it affects men differently than women!)
    • work, stress, and work-life balance
    • men’s cancers

    … But don’t be narrow-minded

Just because certain issues are assumed to be more common among men, it doesn’t mean that men can’t be affected by stereotypically women’s health concerns too, such as osteoporosis and eating disorders. You are your body’s and mind’s own expert, so if you feel that something isn’t right, speak up!
